Andrew Huberman spends between $300 and $460 every month on supplements. He’s said so publicly — and he’s been clear that he does not recommend that level of spending for most people.

I find that honest. And it’s exactly why his stack is worth a close look: What does he actually take? What has real evidence behind it? And what’s the sensible, affordable version for someone with a family and a normal salary?

I’ve been testing several of these since January 2026. Here’s my honest comparison — Huberman’s real list, and the budget stack that actually works.

Huberman’s real supplement stack (2026, updated)

Huberman sorts his own stack into categories. I’ll start with the foundationals — the ones he recommends as a base for almost everyone.

Creatine: cognitive benefits and dosage

Creatine is the only one I already knew before I knew Huberman. He takes 5 g daily, even on rest days — for the cognitive effect, not just muscle.

The background: creatine supports ATP production in the brain. Several studies show improvements in memory, mental stamina and reaction speed — especially under sleep deprivation or stress.

My experience: I’ve taken it daily since January 2026 — my honest report is here. Short version: it works. For me it’s the clearest effect of anything on this list.

What to buy: plain creatine monohydrate — not the pricey “creatine HCL” variants. Same effect, a tenth of the price.

Omega-3 (fish oil): the EPA dose that matters

Huberman’s most-mentioned supplement. He emphasizes EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in particular, because it’s been shown to lower inflammation and stabilize mood — comparable to low-dose antidepressants, according to a widely cited 2022 study.

Dose: aim for 2 g of EPA per day. That means: don’t just grab any fish oil — check the EPA content per capsule.

Buying tip: many cheap fish-oil capsules contain only 300 mg of EPA each — then you’d need 6–7 capsules a day. Better to buy a higher-dosed product.

Magnesium for sleep: L-Threonate vs. Glycinate

For sleep and recovery. Magnesium is the supplement Huberman has taken longest for sleep. He prefers L-Threonate (it crosses the blood-brain barrier), but recommends Glycinate himself as a cheaper alternative with very similar effect.

I take magnesium glycinate — 300 mg, 30 minutes before bed. The effect on falling asleep is noticeable.

Cost: glycinate is far cheaper than L-Threonate (~€15 vs. ~€40+/month). I think glycinate is the smarter choice.

L-Theanine: calm without sedation

L-Theanine occurs naturally in green tea. In a higher dose as a capsule it pairs well with magnesium: it relaxes without sedating, and improves sleep quality without grogginess the next morning.

Huberman combines it with magnesium and apigenin (from chamomile). I take only L-Theanine + magnesium — that’s enough for me.

Vitamin D3 + K2: the right dose

Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common (estimates: 60–80% of the population in many regions). Huberman takes 5,000–10,000 IU daily — that sounds like a lot, but it’s medically reasonable when you’re deficient (get bloodwork first).

Always combine K2 with D3, because K2 keeps calcium from depositing in the wrong tissues.

What I skip — and why

NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide): Huberman takes 2 g daily sublingually. Cost: ~€60–100/month. The longevity research is fascinating but not yet conclusive in humans. I’m waiting for stronger human trials.

AG1 (Athletic Greens): his best-known sponsor. ~€90/month. Lots of good ingredients — but nothing you couldn’t buy cheaper individually. I buy the ingredients separately.

Tongkat Ali / Fadogia Agrestis: for testosterone support. Interesting, but I’m 30+ and finishing the foundationals first before going there.

My personal stack (honest)

SupplementDoseWhenCost/month approx.
Creatine Monohydrate5 gmorning~€3
Omega-3 (high-dose)2 g EPAmorning~€15
Magnesium Glycinate300 mgevening~€8
L-Theanine200 mgevening~€8
Vitamin D3+K23,000 IUmorning~€5
Total~€39/month

That’s the stack that makes sense for me. Not $460. Not ten products started at once. Instead: lay the foundation, observe, adjust.

I have used all 5 supplements myself and found them well tolerated; I only recommend products I use myself or that have a strong scientific basis. This is not medical advice — please get bloodwork before taking high-dose vitamin D.
